Open Lands 8x8 inches oil on canvas

Now that the skies have darkened for winter, I long for the bright summery skies of summer. This small oil was painted on location in Open Lands in Lake Forest, IL. I was painting with my friend Jill and it was a perfect day.

The sides of the 1.5 inch deep canvas are also painted.

"On the Line" 5x7 inch oil

I have done this painting a couple of times. This time I did it in a 5x7 format. I like the way the mop reflects the light on the left hand side. This scene was from behind a small hotel up in Door County Wisconsin. I think those are the hotel bed sheets and pillow cases on the line!

"Pink and Shadows" 6x6 inch oil

Pink tulips set up in a shadow box. The vase was only 4 inches tall so I had to cut down the tulips to fit the small vase but I still liked how they drooped - even though their stems were so short!

Art in the Village a big success

We had a lovely weekend in Hubbard Woods Park in Winnetka, Illinois. There were over 60 artists exhibiting. The weather was warm, but it did not stop the patrons from coming out! A fun weekend!

Thursday, June 23, 2016

I will be exhibiting my oil and watercolor paintings this weekend at Art in the Village.  The show is in Winnetka on Green Bay Road just north of Tower Road.
I will be exhibiting a wide range of paintings including some of my small daily paintings.
Hope to see you there!

"Pancakes" 5x7 inches oil on panel

This is a painting of a stack of flapjacks with gooey butter and syrup.  I had to experiment with the syrup color. It is really a golden brown so I had to do a lot of mixing of cadmium orange and burnt seinna - with a little cadmium red thrown in as well.
Good enough to eat?

"Fashion or Fad" 6x6 inch mixed media on panel

This collage is an assembly of original photography, old hand written letters and magazine imagery. The black, white and sepia piece was created on 140 pound watercolor paper and then adhered to a 3/8 inch white painted panel. The panel has a notch in the rear for immediate hanging.  Easy!

"Fire Horse" 6x6 inches mixed media on panel

I love collage. I love repurposing all kinds of materials.

This collage utilizes distressed direct mail pieces (i.e. junk mail), magazine images, gesso, bubble paper as a stamp, old letters and acrylic paint. It is then adhered to a painted 6x6 inch panel and then varnished with acrylic sealer.

"At the Vineyard" 5 x 5 inches on 7/8 inch cradled board

This is a small painting I did at a Michigan vineyard. I used the end of the paint brush to scratch in lines in the wet paint on the panel. It makes the painting have a textured effect.

This painting is ready to hang, or sit on a shelf.

"On The Line" 5x7 inch oil

When I was up in Door County Wisconsin this past summer, I loved taking pictures of laundry blowing in the breeze. This was behind a little inn right on the beach. The sun was coming through the fabrics in such a pretty way, and the mop was hanging there keeping watch!

Frozen

This isn't a painting, but maybe some day it will be. It is a close up shot of the window from the cabin we stayed in while visiting the Northwoods in Wisconsin. Needless to say, it was very cold for snow mobiling and cross country skiing. But we prevailed. The temperature one night was -18...and that was without the windchill.  Mother Nature has a beautiful way of painting her canvas in the winter. Need to take lessons from her.

"Titan Bear" 6x6 inch oil on gessoboard

This is a painting that I did for my nephew and his wife. It is a portrait of "Titan Bear." Titan is a mix of Chihuahua, Dachshund and Italian Greyhound. He has the head of a Chihuahua, the legs of an Italian Greyhound and the perkiness of a Dachshund. He was a "rescue" from southern California. He is adorable, all 8 pounds of him. Yes, 8.

"Ally" 8x8 inch oil on gessoboard

This is a portrait of "Ally" my daughter and son-in-law's Greater Swiss Mountain dog. At one time she was a show dog and her formal name is Alameda. She is 90+ pounds and a real sweetheart. Loves people and loves to be petted. She is a herding dog and is very strong. They are teaching her to pull a cart and they hope that by the summer she can pull a set of golf clubs around the course!

"Luna" 6x6 inch oil on gessoboard

This is a portrait done of my niece and husband's dog Luna. Luna is a Border collie and Australian cattle dog mix. She was adopted from a shelter in the Los Angeles area.
Very cute dog.

"Winky" 10x10 Inch oil on gessoboard

This was a portrait done for my daughter's college roommate. This is Winchester, better known as "Winky," a German Wired Hair pointer.
Great eyes.
